FACHEX is an undergraduate tuition remission option for children of current full-time faculty, administrators, and staff at participating Jesuit Colleges and Universities.
The dependent of a current employee of a Jesuit college or university other than Boston College is considered an "incoming student."
At Boston College, we typically identify over 100 FACHEX eligible applicants annually for a handful of new FACHEX awards, which are offered to the most academically competitive applicants in that year's admissions pool.
The specific procedures are detailed below. Please keep in mind that Boston College only considers incoming first-year applicants for new FACHEX awards. Transfer students and upperclassmen are not eligible. They should instead, contact the Boston College Office of Student Services to apply for Financial Aid.
First-Year Applicants For Fall 2025 Admission At BC
- Prospective first-year applicants who wish for full consideration for a FACHEX award at Boston College must apply by the Priority Scholarship Deadline of November 1st and make sure to list their parent's employer as a participating Jesuit University in the Parent Employer field on the Common Application. Applicants may choose to have their application reviewed under Early Decision I, Early Decision II, or Regular Decision consideration, so long as they have all of their admissions materials submitted by the Priority Scholarship Deadline of 11/1. While we may still consider those who apply after the November 1st Priority Scholarship Deadline, first consideration is given to those who meet our stated and published deadline. Please visit the Office of Undergraduate Admission page for complete information about applying to Boston College.
- Parents of FACHEX eligible students are required to have their child certified as FACHEX eligible in the Tuition Exchange Database by December 1st. This can ONLY be completed by the parent's employing home institution, and will be used by Boston College to verify FACHEX eligibility if a student is selected as a possible finalist for a FACHEX award here. Failure to be certified as FACHEX eligible in the Tuition Exchange Database WILL result in a failure to be considered for a FACHEX award at Boston College. There are NO exceptions to this policy.
- Beginning in January, students who met the 11/1 Priority Scholarship Deadline, and whose admissions file lists a parent as being employed by a participating Jesuit University, will be reviewed for possible FACHEX consideration based on their academic competitiveness. On occasion, an applicant considered for FACHEX may be co-invited to participate in the academically selective Gabelli Presidential Scholars Program. (Students who qualify for this program are typically in the top 1% of Boston College's pool of first-year applicants and are selected on an invitation-only basis from those who met the Priority Scholarship Deadline).
- By February, students selected as FACHEX Finalists will have their parent's FACHEX eligibility formally confirmed using the Tuition Exchange Database. As explained above, any student not certified as FACHEX eligible by their parent's employing home institution in the Tuition Exchange Database will NOT be eligible for FACHEX consideration at Boston College.
- By April 1st, all FACHEX applicants to Boston College, who were certified as eligible to participate in FACHEX via the Tuition Exchange Database, will be notified of their official FACHEX status here. FACHEX awards are not granted by the Office of Student Services. The Boston College FACHEX Coordinator will notify a student directly if FACHEX is awarded.
- It is strongly recommended that ALL prospective students apply for financial aid at Boston College. Since FACHEX openings are extremely competitive in terms of availability and academic selectivity, a financial aid offer may make it possible to attend Boston College if a FACHEX award is not extended. It is also important to remember that the cost of tuition is not the only cost to be met. If there is a complete financial aid application on file at the time of acceptance, a notice detailing the financial aid package will accompany the offer of admission. For more information on financial aid, contact the Office of Student Services.
- Openings rarely occur after the initial selections are made. A student not offered the benefit as an entering first-year student will not be offered the benefit at Boston College later. For this reason, a waiting list is not maintained, nor is there an application process for upperclassmen.
- If a student is offered a FACHEX award at Boston College and enrolls, it will be renewed on an annual basis provided the student continues to attend full-time and the student’s parent maintains their respective employment and FACHEX eligibility at a participating Jesuit university. Should a parent terminate their employment and/or subsequently fail to maintain FACHEX eligibility at their home institution, the student’s FACHEX award will be terminated at Boston College. FACHEX eligibility status is re-checked annually by Boston College using the Tuition Exchange Database, and only a parent's home employing institution can re-certify their child as FACHEX eligible, since FACHEX is tied to an employee benefit. Should a student lose FACHEX funding due to lack of maintaining FACHEX eligibility, their family would be encouraged to apply for Financial Aid.
- FACHEX recipients must enroll full-time and are expected to complete their undergraduate degree in four years. Recipients are not eligible for tuition remission for more than four years, or during the summer session. Should a recipient decide to interrupt his/her studies at Boston College, the BC FACHEX Coordinator should be notified before the end of the last funded semester, and reinstatement under FACHEX will depend upon the availability of funding at the time. It is not guaranteed. Students who take advantage of a Boston College Study Abroad Program during the fall or spring semester will continue to receive FACHEX funding during the academic year.
- Because the FACHEX award is for full tuition, this benefit will supersede any other full or partial tuition remission award. Privately funded scholarships, i.e., those not awarded by the Boston College Office of Student Services, will not reduce a FACHEX benefit.
- A FACHEX award, should it be granted, only covers tuition. Any additional expenses incurred by the student such as room, board, fees, travel related expenses, and books are the sole responsibility of the student and/or the student's family.
- Although the FACHEX program across all AJCU participating institutions utilize the Tuition Exchange Database for FACHEX certifications, Boston College does not participate in the Tuition Exchange program. We only offer FACHEX.
FAQ for Incoming Students

The FACHEX Coordinator at Boston College does not provide generalized academic counseling. We suggest that you view Boston College's website to review our undergraduate academic offerings. There are also college profiles and major selection information available through outside companies such as the College Board or you can consult the guidance counselor at your child’s high school.
No. Although the FACHEX program across all AJCU participating institutions utilizes the Tuition Exchange Database for FACHEX certifications, Boston College does not participate in the Tuition Exchange program. We only offer FACHEX.
If your employer is one of the schools participating in FACHEX, you must contact your home institution’s FACHEX coordinator to follow their process to be certified. Once your employer verifies your eligibility, they will certify your child as eligible for FACHEX consideration in the Tuition Exchange Database. You must be certified no later than December 1st. Only your employer can perform this certification. Failure to have your child certified in this database will result in a failure of your child to be considered for FACHEX at any school. There are NO exceptions.
Students should apply by the Priority Scholarship Deadline of November 1st, and make sure to list their parent's employer as a participating Jesuit University in the Parent Employer field on the common application. FACHEX applicants may choose to have their application reviewed under the Early Decision I, Early Decision II, or Regular Decision considerations, so long as they have all of their admissions materials submitted by the Priority Scholarship Deadline of 11/1. Parents must also contact the FACHEX Coordinator at their Home institution and follow their employer's procedures to have their child certified in the Tuition Exchange database, as eligible to participate in the FACHEX program. Failure to follow the Priority Scholarship Deadline, or to have your child certified as FACHEX eligible in the Tuition Exchange database, will result in failure to be considered for a FACHEX award. There are NO exceptions to this policy, and only a home institution can certify their employee's children as FACHEX eligible in the Tuition Exchange database. BC can not circumvent that requirement for any parent.
No, FACHEX at Boston College only covers four (4) years of continuous full-time undergraduate study during the traditional fall and spring semesters. You would have to find another source of funding for any summer courses or summer study abroad experiences.
It may not be possible because a FACHEX award at Boston College, if offered, only covers four (4) years of continuous full-time undergraduate study during the traditional fall and spring semesters. If a recipient decides to interrupt their studies at BC, they should notify the FACHEX Coordinator at Boston College before the end of the last funded semester. Reinstatement under FACHEX will depend on the availability of FACHEX openings at the time of reinstatement and it is not guaranteed.
Ordinarily, you will not need to reapply. At Boston College, if your child receives a FACHEX award here, it will be automatically renewed on an annual basis provided your child continues to attend Boston College full-time and you maintain your employment/FACHEX eligibility at your home institution. Should a parent terminate their employment and/or subsequently fail to maintain FACHEX eligibility at their home institution, the student’s FACHEX award will be terminated by the receiving institution. FACHEX eligibility status is checked annually by Boston College using the Tuition Exchange Database, and only your home employing institution can recertify your child as FACHEX eligible since FACHEX is tied to your employee benefit. Should your child lose FACHEX funding due to lack of maintaining FACHEX eligibility, your family would be encouraged to apply for Financial Aid. Complete information about applying for Financial Aid at Boston College can be found on our Office of Student Services website.
No, Boston College does not offer interviews for Admission or programs like FACHEX. For the fairness of all candidates, only information collected for the admission application is reviewed. No personal interviews, meetings, or expression of FACHEX interest outside of the application requirements will be considered.
No, there is no waitlist.
No. Boston College only reviews incoming first-year students for FACHEX. A student not offered the benefit as an entering first-year student will not be offered the benefit at Boston College later.
No, they may not withdraw. Early Decision I and Early Decision II are both binding commitments to attend Boston College upon admission. If your child applies through either EDI or EDII and is admitted, they are committed to attend Boston College and the FACHEX award is separate and apart from the admission decision. We strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with EDI, EDII, and RD before deciding upon one of those options. As a condition to full consideration for FACHEX, an applicant must apply for admission by November 1st, but they may apply through EDI, EDII, or RD.
Yes. FACHEX awards at Boston College are extremely competitive and limited in number. For this reason, it is highly recommended that all FACHEX applicants also apply for Financial Aid since a Financial Aid offer may make it possible to attend Boston College should a FACHEX award not be extended. You can review the Office of Student Services website for more information about how to apply for Financial Aid.
The selection process is highly selective. We receive 100 or more applications each year for a handful of new FACHEX awards. Since FACHEX is awarded to the most academically competitive student(s) in that year's application pool, it is highly competitive both in terms of availability and selectivity. There are also no guarantees to the children of any faculty or staff member that they will be able to utilize the FACHEX benefit at the school of their choice.
Your child should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission at 617-552-3100 prior to admission deadlines. They are the only office at Boston College that can adjust an applicant's admission file.
It is the responsibility of the parent/student to research the admissions and FACHEX policies of the Jesuit college/universities they are applying to and follow those deadlines/procedures. No exceptions will be made. If you have questions, you can always contact the appropriate FACHEX coordinator.
All FACHEX eligible students applying to BC will be notified of their FACHEX decision by April 1st. The initial FACHEX notification will be sent separate from the Admission or Financial Aid decision letters.
